What is Arkansas Works?

Arkansas Works is a collaborative effort among the departments of Career Education, Education, Higher Education, Workforce Services, and Economic Development; the Arkansas Science and Technology Authority; the Arkansas Association of Two-Year Colleges, and the State Chamber of Commerce. 
Funded by the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services through Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), this initiative is a three-component system that includes

  • The Arkansas College and Career Planning System, a Web-based career planning system powered by Kuder™
  • The College and Career Coaches Program
  • The ACT Academy Program

The Arkansas Department of Career Education, Office of Arkansas Works, invite interested applicants to submit request for funding a College and Career Coach for the FY 2015. 

Purpose of Program:  The College and Career Coach program is designed to motivate and support Arkansas students and adults achieve their goals as it relates to college and career planning. Students in the 8th – 12thgrade and Adults will be served by Career Coaches.  The Arkansas Works program and Career Coaches provide assistance and information for resources in the areas of: academic tutoring, career counseling, mentoring, financial guidance, and other supports necessary for post secondary education/training access, retention, and success.  

Structure of Program:  The College and Career Coaches provide services to middle and high school students and are co-located at an institution of higher education, education cooperative or non-profit organization. 

Eligible Applicants:  An institution of higher education, education cooperative or non-profit organization is eligible to submit an application for funding.

Grant Programs:  Applicants, who submit request, will be eligible to receive funding to assist in cost associated with employing a College and Career Coach;providing ACT remediation and preparation; and/or services designed to encourage college and career exploration and preparation.

Deadline: Applicants must submit proposals by no later than Friday, March 14 by 4:30pm.
